Title Editor's Note
Contents After the publication of the very first issue of International Journal of High-Rise Buildings (IJHRB) at the beginning of 2012, the fourth issue which completes the series for this year has finally been published. We are stepping forward towards the goal of pursuing technical advancement of design and construction as well as the development of this learned tall building profession by introducing various papers and studies on them.

Tall buildings are a very interesting field to researchers. There are a number of requirements including that a tall building must be safe as its basis and it also needs to be economically and realistically designed.

There are many elements which have to be taken into consideration regarding safety hazards such as wind, earthquake, fire and others. Construction period reductions, as well as energy consumption reduction are also important issues on the building's economical side. Another factor which should not be ignored is construction management. New technologies and case studies introduced by the journal can provide researchers and engineers on site with very useful information.

These days, tall buildings are called vertical cities. Many phenomena from this new type of society should be the topics of our studies as well. Papers on urban planning and environmental issues will be introduced on the journal as much as possible from now on.

There will be two special issues of IJHRB planned for this coming 2013. The March issue will concentrate on fire engineering which will be co-edited by Prof. G. Q. Li and myself. The September issue will concentrate on wind engineering and will be edited by Prof Yukio Tamura from Tokyo Polytechnic University of Japan.

We will be first applying to be enlisted on SCI-E in 2013 for the journal's leap to be a global authoritative publication on technology and research of tall buildings. Active contribution and support from tall building researchers and engineers are acutely needed for this goal.
