This March 2023 issue of the International Journal of High-Rise Buildings comprises two parts: the major part with eight papers under the theme of "Sustainable Vertical Urbanism" edited by Professor Zhendong Wang who introduces this part in more detail later in the note and another part with an invited paper on seismic isolation and vibration control authored by Professor Yoshikazu Takahashi, et al. The first part covers a broad spectrum of sustainable tall building design and developments in urban contexts worldwide. The second part presents a new development in tall building engineering in a seismic zone. As has been the ceaseless efforts of the IJHRB, it continues aiming to be the leading publication to present and discuss all interrelated areas regarding tall building design and developments, from very technical engineering investigations to architectural, environmental, urban and global design issues. Indeed, tall buildings are a building type that requires a true collaboration between multidisciplinary experts. It is an honor to succeed Professor Sang Dae Kim, who led this interdisciplinary journal impeccably over the past 11 years, and begin my role as the principal editor-in-chief. The IJHRB will continue its legacy with its authors, readers, international editorial bord, advisory committee, and editors, all together. With the rapid growth of population and urbanization throughout the globe, tall buildings are an essential building type today and even more for the future. The IJHRB promotes research and application of innovative technology and design to create more livable and sustainable vertical built environments with well-thought-out tall building developments. Papers making a seminal contribution to this important effort are always welcome. Kyoung Sun Moon Principal Editor-in-Chief --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This March 2023 issue of the journal contains the sixth IJHRB 'Architecture and Urban Planning' special issue. This issue's man topic is 'Sustainable Vertical Urbanism'. Last year, CTBUH used Seeking the Ideal in Vertical Urbanism as the theme of 2022 international conference. And this issue tries to discuss it through several key words such as supertall, urbanity, air right, TOD, high density and mixed-use. Ms. Shasha Wang, the market analyst in CTBUH Asia headquarters, together with Mr. Daniel Safarik, the director, research and thought leadership at CTBUH analyze the key trends in supertall buildings via the review of world's 100 tallest buildings in the last 30 years. Dr. Huiqiong Tian and Dr. Jiaqi Qu, the associate director in CTBUH Asia headquarters discuss the enhancement trend of the urbanity of high-rise buildings. Dr. Chao Weng and prof. Yu Zhuang share their research on the evolution of skyscraper block typology affected by air rights development based on the case study of Manhattan. Prof. Dongzhu Chu and his student Hong Su bring their research on the correlation between rail transit entrances and urban form in high-density areas. Prof. Hong Yuan and her student Mr. Yongming Zhang, prof. Siting Chen, together with Mrs. Na Xu from BYD auto industry company limited make a comparative study on land use and spatial form of TOD models in the United States and Japan. Dr. Shuo Chen and Prof. Xiangyu Li share their studies in Beijing which uses multi-source big data to classifying the metro station areas. Mr. Jun Zha, Mrs. Xuewei Chen from ECADI and Mrs. Yan Li from Shanghai International Studies University share their vertical urban design practices and thinking within the framework of urban regeneration. Prof. Zhendong Wang and his student Yihan Pan, Xihui Zhou together with prof. Yi Lu share their research on the relevance between mixed-use complex and user behavior based on three-dimensional spatial analysis. In the end, I need to appreciate my colleague, Mr. Daniel Safarik especially, who helped me to finish the peer-review, the editing and the proof-reading programs of all the papers in a very limited time. I would also like to appreciate all the authors of this issue for sharing their thoughts and latest achievements, and the support from the emeritus editor-in-chief of IJHRB, Prof. Sang Dae Kim as well as other CTBUH colleagues who helped me during my editing of this issue.
