Title Editor's note
Contents The 2016 China-Japan-Korea Tall Building Forum was held on July 8 at the Tokyo Institute of Technology
in Japan. It was the third meeting of this forum series, following the first held in 2014 in Shanghai and the
second in 2015 in Seoul. This year's event was organized by the CTBUH Japan Structures Committee, the
Japanese Society of Steel Construction (JSSC), and the Structural Engineering Research Center of the Tokyo
Institute of Technology. It was also a collaborative effort with CITAB (China International Exchange
Committee for Tall Buildings) and CTBUH Korea.
The theme for this year's symposium was "Innovative Motion Engineering in Tall Buildings." Following
a keynote lecture entitled "Performance of Seismic Protective Systems for Supertall Buildings and Their
Contents" by Professor Kazuhiko Kasai, Tokyo Institute of Technology, nine presentations on the latest
motion engineering topics were given from representatives of China, Korea, and Japan. At the same time,
the event fostered meaningful and stimulated discussions with more than 150 participants, including
researchers, engineers, and students.
All papers presented at the forum are collected in this issue of IJHRB (International Journal of High-Rise
Buildings). The contribution of all authors for this significant and interesting issue is highly appreciated.
Also, we are extremely thankful for the support of IJHRB Chief Editor Professor Emeritus Kim Sangdae
and his staff, as well as CTBUH Japan Chairmen Professor Emeritus Akira Wada, Tokyo Institute of
Technology.
